HB 3613 Creates New Homestead Exemption for Disabled Veterans

House Bill 3613 was passed by the Texas Legislature and signed by the Governor on June 19, 2009. This bill contains provisions requiring an exemption of the total appraised value of homesteads of Texas veterans receiving 100 percent disability compensation from the United States Department of Veteran Affairs. This new law takes effect immediately for the 2009 tax year. We will soon be placing more information on our website regarding who qualifies, what property qualifies, and how to apply, etc.
